Embassy in Colombo beleaguered?

13 November, 2016

Authorities have initiated an inquiry into an incident where a western embassy in Colombo came under sporadic attacks by unruly elements residing in the vicinity of the embassy compund. It was alleged that the neighbours had thrown objects over the parapet walls into the embassy compound and the security at the embassy could not abate it.

The ambassador had reportedly complained to the Foreign Ministry and they in turn had referred the matter to the police. It is said that the people who were displaced to build the new complex had been involved in the incident. Squatters had encroached this property in question for a long time since it was a vacant land and nobody knew to whom it belonged.
