Parliament condoles Castro’s death: ‘Sad day for socialists across the globe’

Parliament yesterday expressed condolences on the demise of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

UPFA Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa joining the Committee Stage debate on the Ministry of Housing and Construction expressed the Joint Opposition’s condolences on the death of iconic Cuban leader Castro. JVP National List MP Bimal Ratnayake who joined the debate recalled the yeoman services rendered by the Cuban leader in realising communism in Cuba and added that it was a sad day for socialists across the globe to hear the demise of Cuban revolutionary leader.

UPFA Kalutara District MP Jayantha Samaraweera, State Minister of Lands T.B. Ekanayaka and UPFA Digamadulla district MP Sriyani Wijewickrama also expressed the condolences of their parties.

Fidel Castro who led his native Cuba for nearly half a century was the world’s third longest serving Head of State. He died at the age of 90.
