Border Management Committee to be set up

The government has decided to appoint a National Border Management Committee to manage the tasks conducted across the border and maintain national security in the near future.

A proposal made by the President in his capacity as the Defence Minister, in this respect was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers recently, official sources said.

People and Goods exchanged across the Sri Lankan border has seen a sharp increase in recent times and it is expected that in 2020 this will reach 10 million people and 200 million kilograms of goods.

The Committee, which will serve as the government’s central body for assessment of risks, priorities, and aims in this respective field, will comprise senior officers and policy makers of the government.
