Fails to regain L D H Peiris Memorial trophy : Ananda take major honours against Royal

Ananda College principal S.M. Keerthiratne returns the L.D.H. Peiris memorial trophy to Royal captain Helitha Vithanage.

Ananda College took major honors in their drawn under 19 Singer Cup division one match against Royal College at Ananda Mawatha yesterday but failed to regain the L D H Peiris Memorial Trophy for which the encounter is played for.

The trophy was first awarded in 2003 in memory of L D H Peiris, a respected old Anandian and former principal of Royal College. Royal invited to bat first made 221 and Ananda in reply declared at 285-7. Their innings was anchored by an opening stand of 116 between Kavindu Gimhana and Sahan Suraweera and a 111-run fifth wicket partnership between Dushan Hettige and skipper Kavisha Anjula. Kavindu scored 73 off 77 balls (11 fours and a six) and Sahan smashed 56 off 48 balls (5 fours and 3 sixes). Hettige made a patient 64 runs off 121 balls (10 fours and a six) and Kavishka’s knock of 63 came off 57 balls and included eight fours and two sixes.

Royal were 165/5 at close in their second innings with Kavindu Madarasinghe scoring back to back half tons.
