First phase opening of National Dental Hospital

The first phase of the Sri Lanka National Dental Teaching Hospital will be opened on January 31 by President Maithripala Sirisena in the presence of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and Health Deputy Minister Fizal Kassim, Health Ministry sources said.

Health Ministry Secretary Anura Jayawickrama, Acting Director General of Health Services Dr. Jayasundara Bandara and other health officials will also participate.

The new hospital consists of an Out Patient Department (OPD), Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU), four oral and maxillofacial surgical units, two dental restoration units, dental orthopedic section, oral health promotion unit, male and female ward complexes with 32 beds, surgery complex with three theatres, oral diseases unit, two laboratories, Cone beam CT Scanner (the only such machine available in Sri Lanka at the moment), fully computerised x-ray unit and data storage system, fully computerised admission system etc.

The new hospital will be manned by 240 health professionals including a consultant community dentist, consultant dental and maxillofacial surgeons, consultant dental orthopadic surgeon, restorative dentists, implantologists, nurses, MLTs, pharmacists etc. The foundation stone for the second phase of the hospital will be laid on the same day.
