Govt to promote flower cultivation

Kurunegala district UNP Parliamentarian and Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Jayawickrama Perera told the ‘Sunday Observer’ that his Ministry will launch a five-year action plan this year to promote the cultivation of flowers on a large scale.

Under this plan, flowers will be grown in each and every province covering the whole island.All infrastructural facilities would be developed and expertise and technological assistance would be provided to those who come forward in the cultivation of valuable and rare varieties of flowers on a commercial basis and for exporting to the overseas market.

Minister Jayawickrama Perera said Rs. 228 million has been allocated for this project this year at its commencement and the cabinet approval too has already been obtained for the implementation of this project. The Minister said the program would create 125,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
