Beggar knocked down by ambulance

A homeless person was knocked down by an ambulance in Payagala on Friday. The ambulance was transporting a patient from Aathagama to the Kalutara General Hospital when the accident occurred.

The man was admitted to the Kalutara General Hospital with severe injuries where he later passed away. According to the Police, the deceased has not been identified. Payagala Police have arrested the driver of the ambulance and are carrying out further investigations.

Two arrested for firearm possession

Two people were arrested by the Elpitiya Police in Divithuruwatta on Friday for possessing a locally manufactured firearm and two live grenades.

According to the Police, the duo were wanted in connection with a case of assault. They are suspected to have attacked person with a sword and a club according to the complaint. The suspects aged 21 and 24 are residents of Elpitiya.


Two motorcyclists killed

Two motorcyclists were killed in two separate accidents on Friday. A 16-year-old youth was killed in Kohuwala when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and slammed into a wall on Saranankara Road.

The youth succumbed to his injuries following his admission to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. Police have identified the deceased as Ravichandu Ramesh of Dehiwala.

A female motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a van on the Kurunegala-Puttalam road on Friday evening. The motorcyclist, and two children aged nine and two, who were travelling with her at the time of the accident were admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital with severe injuries. The motorcyclist, 35-year-old Himali Yapa Menike of Rathmale, Wariyapola later succumbed to her injuries. Wariyapola Police have arrested the van driver and are carrying out further investigations.
