Three people died when a private bus collided with a lorry travelling in front of it, before hitting a bus halt, near a petrol shed in Egoda Uyana, Moratuwa at about 6.50 last evening. The driver of the bus had lost control of the vehicle which resulted in the accident. Three people, two females and a male who were at the bus halt succumbed to their injuries upon being admitted to the Panadura hospital. The victims have been identified as residents of the Egoda Uyana area. The man and woman were found to be in their sixties while the girl was 15.
The drivers of the private bus and the lorry have been taken into custody.
A tense situation prevailed in the area following the accident which was later defused by the police.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Moratuwa Police.
