Great Expectations is an ineffable Bildungsroman written by the famous writer Charles Dickens and first published by Chapman & Hall in 1861. This is a Victorian novel, which portrays the socio-cultural aspects of the Victorian epoch. The main characters of the novel are Pip, Miss Havisham, Estella and Abel Magwitch. The plot runs from Pip's childhood to adulthood which is based on the first person narrative. The novel portrays both the beauty of the village and the squalor of a certain area in the city. Class difference, importance of education, crime and violence, lies and deceit, justice and law are the main themes in the novel. I love Great Expectations because it has the power to makes readers understand life.
