6th Ruhunu - Maya encounter ends in a draw

Dharmapala College managed to avert a follow-on with the help of a 45 runs last wicket stand between Chamindu Samarasinghe (36) and Shashika Dilshan (9) that saw the 6th Ruhunu Maya encounter end in a draw at De Soysa Stadium Moratuwa yesterday.

Rahula invited to bat first continued from their overnight score of 187/7 declared their first essay at 210/9. Lakindu Chamodya top scored with 55 and figured in a 72-run stand with Sasith Manuranga (32). Chamindu Samarasinghe captured four wickets for Dharmapala. Vinushka Chathuranga made an early breakthrough in the Dharmapala first innings dismissing both openers with the score on 15 after which Pasan Samaratunga and Nuwan Madhusanka had the home team reeling at 69/9 when Chamindu and Shashika averted the follow on with their 45-run partnership.

Dharmapala managed to reach 114 before Chamindu was dismissed.

Rahula declared their second essay at 80/6 scored in 15 overs giving Dharmapala a victory target of 176 runs to be scored in a minimum of 23 overs. Dharmapala were 41/3 at the end of 19 overs when play was called off.
