Promoting nautical tourism among local as well as foreign visitors, Sail Lanka Charter introduced ‘Opal’, the largest catamaran in its fleet last week.

“This is the sixth boat to be introduced by the company. Business is picking up and more visitors are patronizing our services.

Boating has become an integral part of the travel and tourism sector and are fast becoming popular,” Sail Lanka Charter, Deputy General Manager Jeroen Misseghers said.

“The company has plans to increase the fleet up to 20 boats by 2020. We see good potential in this business and hope to make it a viable venture in the near future,” he said.

The 53-foot catamaran has the capacity to host 50 guests and offers comfortable seating that can accommodate up to 20 people.

On its maiden voyage, the Opel will depart from Jungle Beach, Galle over the course of the next few months.

It will offer whale-watching tours, sunset cruises, snorkeling expeditions and exclusive dining on board.

“We are delighted to expand our fleet with the introduction of Opal, a custom-made luxury catamaran that offers a seamless cruising experience as well as optimal elegance and comfort.

Sail Lanka Charter has been a pioneering force in the luxury aquatic and yachting industry and operates a fleet of six boats at key locations around the island,” Sail Lanka Chairman Pierre Pringiers said. “We have also played a leading role in connecting local and foreign travellers to key tourism destinations on the Northern coast such as Jaffna and Trincomalee.

Our 3-6 day cruises to the North are gaining popularity and truly showcase the many wildlife, cultural and historical attractions that the North has to offer,” he said.

Sail Charter Lanka offers up-market yachting experience and relaxed coastal cruising and dining. Guests travelling on board the company’s yachts can experience breathtaking vistas of the Indian ocean. An experienced captain pilots the Opal.

The boat also has a fully-equipped kitchen, standup paddle boards, fresh water showers and has snorkeling gear, body boards and canoes on board for guests to use. A professional life guard is always on duty and a life raft, life jackets and firefighting equipment are all stored on board to ensure the safety of guests.

To mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Sail Lanka Charter offers a 20 percent discount on all cruises up to June.

This offer will be valid for all guests travelling on the Opal as well as Sail Lanka’s other boats.
