Chinese entrepreneurs keen to invest in software, logistics sectors

China is interested in investing in a wide range of business areas in Sri Lanka, a recent business delegation has told the officials of Board of Investment (BOI).

The areas the delegation was exploring in Sri Lanka include; software and hardware development, the manufacture of hydrogen and nitrogen based products, logistics including the warehousing of chemical products for transshipment overseas using Sri Lanka as a hub, network security, gems and jewellery, the assembly of equipment and education.

The delegation from China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Beijing Chapter was hosted by BOI last week. “They were here to study the potential for trade and investments between the two countries,” a BOI spokesperson said.

A presentation in Chinese by Vipula Jayasinghe, Senior Deputy Director (Promotion) responsible for China of BOI included the many advantages Sri Lanka offers to Chinese investors as well as the long standing friendly relations that havedeveloped between the Governments and the people of both countries. The BOI delegation consisted of Prasanjith Wijayathilake - Executive Director (Promotion), Dilip S Samarasinghe - Director (Media & Publicity), Nilupul De Silva - Director (Promotion), Nelson Kumarapeli-Senior Deputy Director (Horana EPZ) and VipulaJayasinghe - Senior Deputy Director (Promotion).

CCPIT is China’s leading Chamber of Commerce that has chapters throughout the Chinese territory and includes all leading Chinese enterprises. It was founded in 1952 with the objective of developing co-operation and exchanges with foreign countries.
