Foreigner found dead in Hikkaduwa

A 73-year-old UK citizen was found dead in front of the house he was residing in Thalagasdeniya, Hikkaduwa on Friday. According to the Police, the deceased has been identified as Peter Blumenstein.

Hikkaduwa Police are carrying out further investigations.

Pedestrian killed in Sigiriya

A man was killed near Inamaluwa on the Dambulla-Habarana road on Friday when he was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle. The incident had occurred around 10.45 in the night. The vehicle involved in the accident had fled the scene, according to the Police.

The victim succumbed to his injuries on being admitted to the Dambulla Hospital. The deceased, 74-year-old, Thunpath Liyadde Dukganna Walawwe Abeysinghe Banda Ekanayake was a resident of Kimbissa.

Man nabbed with hand grenade

A person possessing a hand grenade was taken into custody by the Ambalangoda police. The arrest was made in Polwatta, Ambalangoda on a tip-off. The 30-year-old suspect is a resident of Ambalangoda. Police are carrying out further investigations.

Foot-board traveller killed in Moratuwa

A foot-board traveller on the Ruhunu Kumari train which was plying from Colombo to Matara, died when he and several other passengers riding on the foot-board banged against a lorry which was parked alongside the railway track in Moratuwa. The incident took place on Friday. The deceased was 32-year-old Mohamed Faiz Mohamed Shifan, a resident of Magoda, Beruwala. Police have arrested the driver of the lorry.
