IP Rangajeewa’s condition improves

IP Neomal Rangajeewa of the Police Narcotics Bureau who was critically injured in the shooting at Piliyandala and receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital has been transferred to the Police Hospital.

According to hospital sources, the move was made due to an improvement in his health, following treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital.

IP Rangajeewa had suffered gunshot wounds to the shoulder and head area in the incident.

On May 9, a team of PNB officers led by IP Rangajeewa was shot at by two armed assailants on a motorcycle in the Piliyandala area, killing the driver, PC Chaminda Abeywickrama while critically injuring IP Rangajeewa, another Police officer and four other bystanders, including three children.

One of the children, 11-year-old Samadhi Pathirana, a student of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Borella succumbed to her injuries on Friday.

According to the Police, the shooting had taken place when the PNB team had been travelling on a drugs raid, acting on a tip-off. The Criminal Investigations Department is carrying out further investigations into the incident.
