Caught with synthetic drugs

An 18-year-old youth was nabbed with synthetic drugs in his possession on Friday. The suspect was arrested by the Western Province Anti Corruption Unit at the Sahaspura Housing Scheme in Borella. According to the Police, the youth was in possession of 35 pills of Tramadol X at the time of arrest. He is said to be a resident of Heiyanthuduwa.

Meanwhile another suspect was arrested in Maradana while in possession of five pills identified as illegal drug, Route 66. The suspect aged 20 is a resident of Colombo 10.

The Colombo Crimes Division is carrying out further investigations into the incidents.

Two killed

The driver and assistant of a truck were killed when it collided head-on with another truck travelling in the opposite direction, along the Colombo- Batticaloa road in the Kuruvita area on Friday.

Four people, including the deceased, were critically injured and admitted to the Ratnapura hospital where the two later succumbed to their injuries. The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Malik Shantha Abeysundara and 19-year-old Lahiru Dilantha Abeysundara of Gangeyaya, Embilipitiya.

Man drowns

A 27-year-old man who was bathing in a stream along with two friends in the Pulasthipura area on Friday, was swept away. The trio had been returning home after attending a function when they had stopped to have a bath, the Police said.

The man who was swept away was later found drowned. According to the Police, the deceased Thilina Damith was a resident of Pulasthipura, Polonnaruwa.

Robbery suspects arrested

Officers of the Mount Lavinia Unsolved Cases Unit apprehended two men suspected to have been involved in a series of robberies in the Rathmalana area.

The officers made the arrests on a tip-off received on Friday. Police also recovered a mobile phone, a gold chain, two gold pendants, three vehicle batteries and three radios, on information revealed by the suspects.
