St Thomas College Matara registered a thrilling eleven run win over Rahula College in their penultimate game of the first round of the on going under 17 division one cricket tournament.
Rahula needing thirteen runs to win in the last over with seven wickets in hand were bowled out with two balls to spare for the addition of only two runs. STC skipper Gishanthika Jayaweera bowled the final over.
Invited to bat first in a match reduced to 34 overs per side due to a damp wicket at Uyanwatta stadium STC scored 158 for the loss of six wickets Gishanthika Jayaweera top scored with a seventy ball 44 while Hasaru Anuranga smashed an unbeaten 38 off 18 balls which included four boundaries and two sixes. Kavishka Lakshan captured for wickets while Chamuditha Dilshan was rewarded with two.
Binara Sanketh 47 off 79 balls and skipper Baghya Himath 39 off 52 balls shared an opening stand of 80 runs off 113 balls to take Rahula within reach of an easy win but the rest of the batsmen could not capitalize except for Uvin Peshitha who chipped in with 19 off 21 balls.
Sathira Theekshana took four wickets while Gishanthika Jayaweera grabbed the last two.
