Maj Gen Karunasekara new Chief of Staff

Major General K.A.D Amal Karunasekara has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff (CIS) of the Sri Lanka Army.

Karunasekara joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in the year 1981. He was thereafter commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army in 1984 subsequent to the completion of his initial Officer Cadet training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

He had previously held key appointments such as Master General of Ordnance Branch, Director Military Intelligence, and Director Infantry in the Sri Lanka Army etc. He has also commanded an infantry Battalion and an infantry Brigade in number of military operations conducted against the LTTE and had also acted as the Commander of 53 Division (Sri Lanka) of the Sri Lanka Army.
