Revelations, the National Inter-School Photography competition, Exhibition and Seminar, by the Round Table Camera Club will be held on August 19 and 20 at the JDA Perera Gallery, Colombo 7. The seminar, which is dedicated to schoolchildren, will commence at 8.30 am and the award ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11 am.

The exhibition will open at 12 noon by the chief guest, veteran cinematography, M.D. Mahindapala.

The Round Table Camera Club, which consists of top visual communicators in Sri Lanka organises educational events annually under the theme ‘Seeing Light’ to commemorate the world photography day.

The first such event by the club was Seeing Light 2014, a seminar and discussion held at the Mahaweli Centre.

With this event the club introduced a fresh structure for such events and we were able to initiate several intriguing and eye opening discussions, the organisers said at a press conference last week..

In 2015, in addition to the seminar and the discussion a book written by club members, Dr. Dinil Abeygunawardane, Dr. Ayasmantha Peiris and Dr. Mangalanath Udukala was launched at the Mahaweli Centre Auditorium.

In 2016 the club took a step further and organised a full day event consisting of two seminars called ‘Meaningful Image’.

The entire morning session of the event was dedicated to schoolchildren.

With the experience and the feedback received in 2016, the membership decided to dedicate efforts towards schoolchildren and the decision to organise Seeing Light 2017 – ‘Revelations, a national inter-school photography competition, exhibition and seminar was made, they said.

A great number of schools were contacted via registered post, the phone and email.

The response from the schools was excellent, an unprecedented 3000+ images were received for the competition.

The Institute of Multimedia Education, Herpetological Foundation of Sri Lanka, Cameron Trade Connections, Jeewa Education, Future World, Debug (Epson) and the State Pharmaceutical Corporation came forward as sponsors to support us for this great course.

As a non profit organisation, organising an event of this magnitude would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors. organizers said.
