Man with ammunition arrested at Koshena
Police arrested a person with two locally manufactured guns, four live bullets and a banned knife following a tip off. The suspect aged 34 is a resident of Koshena, Handapangoda. Horana Magistrate remanded the suspect till August 23. The police is conducting further investigations.
Army officer killed in collision at Panagoda
An Army officer succumbed to his injuries when an army bus transporting army passengers from Panagoda camp knocked against a stationary lorry and veered off the road at Badagamuwa, on the Kurunegala-Dambulla main road. The victim has been identified as Kithsiri Lalith Kumara (43) of Jayapura, Ipalogama, Kekirawa. The bus driver has been taken into custody.
Kurunegala police is conducting further investigations.
Mother and daughter knocked down at pedestrian crossing
A mother and her daughter were seriously injured in a fatal accident when they were knocked down by a jeep at a pedestrian crossing at Matikumbura along the Colombo-Kurunegala main road last Friday.On admission to the Kurunegala General Hospital, the 80 year old mother, D. G Violet Nona of Polgahawela succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the jeep has been taken into custody. Polgahawela police is conducting further investigations.
Motorcyclist dies in road accident
V. A Indunil Lalith (27) of Labbala in the Giriulla police division suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle veered off the road and knocked against a telephone post at Pahala Labbala last Friday.
He succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Dambadeniya hospital. Giriulla police is conducting further investigations.
