The All Island Schools Under 16 Rugby Tournament organized by Schools Rugby Football Association got underway at the Trinity College Rugby grounds Pallekele and Digana Rugby stadium.
The tournament is sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd. for the ‘Milo’ trophy and have attracted 33 teams from all parts of the country.
In the first round played between St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and St. Thomas’ College, Matale played at the Digana Stadium saw the highest score of 68 from the Colombo school accounting for the biggest victory on the day with the Thomians failing to score a single point.
Joes collected their points through 10 tries and added extra points through nine conversions.
Matale, Thomians in their second match also failed when Vidyartha College rattled up a total of 62 points with 10 tries and six conversions.. In this game Vidyartha could not match the opponents and were unable to score.
Isipathana College received two walkovers when Carey College and Lumbini College failed to turn up for their scheduled games. Altogether there were six walkovers recorded .
The quarterfinals, semi finals and the final will be played today at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium commencing at 8.30a.m.
