Man axed to death in Omanthai
A 37-year-old man was killed on Friday when he was axed to death during a family dispute the Omanthai Police said.
The Police have arrested the wife of the victim, his father-in-law and her brothers in connection with the incident. The victim has been identified as Balayai Subashkaran. Omanthai Police are investigating.
Shop gutted in fire
A shoe shop on First Cross Street, Pettah was ravaged by a fire. According to the Police, the incident had occurred on Friday night around 7 pm. No lives were lost in the incident. Police along with the fire brigade were able to bring the fire under control. Police are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Three robbers nabbed
The Mirihana Special Investigations Division has nabbed three men suspected to have committed a series of robberies in various Police divisions. The men were arrested from the Malabe, Kahathuduwa and Biyagama areas. The suspects are said to be between the age of 33, 38 and 39. Police are currently on the lookout for more suspects connected to the gang and are carrying out further investigations.
