ECCSL to host forum on sustainable supply chains

The European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL), in partnership with the Foreign Trade Association (FTA), the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, will conduct a national forum titled ‘Sri Lanka and GSP+: Ensuring Sustainable Supply Chains’. The forum will be held on October 2 at the JAIC Hilton from 9 am to 5 pm. Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrama and Ambassador for the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Tung Lai-Margue will be Chief Guests. Ambassador Margue will speak on the government’s obligations including (GSP+ monitoring and score card progress) to comply with its commitments.

The core objective of the forum is to underline the importance attached to sustainable supply chains in pursuing opportunities available through the GSP+ facility. Experts from Sri Lanka and Europe will provide insights on how the European market is regulated and the responsibility of businesses to invest more responsibly by enhancing market rewards for corporate, social, and environmental responsibility followed by a panel discussion. The panelists are drawn from a wide pool of local experts including researchers, academics, heads of export associations and CEO’s. The discussion will be moderated by Chief Economist of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Anushka Wijesinghe.

The Director General of the Foreign Trade Association, Christian Ewert will speak on the importance of a broader sustainable agenda for Sri Lanka to enable local companies to stay ahead of the game and make a significant contribution to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meet EU monitoring requirements.

This event is aimed at the business community including SMEs, civil society, the diplomatic community, and senior representatives from government.
