National Youth Games in Anuradhapura from 27-30

The 29th Youth Games organized by National Youth Services is scheduled to be held in Anuradhapura from September 27th to 30th at different locations in the vicinity of A’pura town. Around 3000 competitor who qualified through the district level games will be seen in action on these three days..

The competitors will be competing in two different categories Under 20 over 20 for men and women. There will be 64 events on the card of Track and Field for both categories. Finals of Men and Women Volleyball, Tug of War,

Football, Netball and Kabbadi is scheduled to be held at the North Central Province Sports Complex on 28, 29 and 30th September. The Youth Games which has come to Anuradhapura after a lapse of eleven years has attracted 168 competitors from Jaffna district. The chairman of the National Youth Council Eranga Weliange disclosed these details at the press briefing held at the Information Ministry Autotorium.

He further disclosed that this year the winning district is to receive a cash award of Rs 150,000 in addition to the Trophy. The runner up is to receive Rs. 100,000. Athletes who set up a national records will be awarded Rs. 50,000 and for a games record setters Rs. 10,000. The best Woman

Athlete will be awarded a scooter while the Best Athlete too will receive a Motor cycle.

Last year the Gampaha District won the Championship with Colombo District the runner up. The closing ceremony which is scheduled for September 30 will be attended by Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake as the chief guest.To coincide with the Youth Games in Anuradhpura a festival named ‘Youth Mela’ packed with educational value and a Trade Fair too will be held from September 26 to 30.
