The government will soon formulate a new mechanism to obtain vehicles for state institutions, informed government sources said.
The new mechanism, once passed by the Cabinet, will be introduced to all state institutions across the board, they further added.
Several ministers, at the last cabinet meeting, had said the issue of vehicles rented by state institutions at high monthly rates was becoming a serious financial concern for the government.
They had pointed out, as a result of the current system, the government ended up paying a large amount of money to private parties and companies, on a monthly basis. “The current system can be misused by various unscrupulous parties and it is an unnecessary cost to the State. That is why a new system has to come into effect,” a senior Cabinet Minister told the Sunday Observer.
