Stamp to honour D.B. Dhanapala

The Sri Lanka Press Council will issue a commemorative stamp to acknowledge the yeoman service rendered by the doyen of Sri Lanka’s Newspaper industry and journalism, the late D.B. Dhanapala, at the Public Library and Documentation Board, on Thursday, Oct. 19, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna will participate.

Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, former Head, Department of Mass Media, Kelaniya University and Director, Sri Lanka Press Council, will deliver the keynote address on the theme, ‘D.B. Dhanapala’s role in journalism’.

Dhanapala launched his career as an English journalist but later displayed his flair for Sinhala journalism, being the pioneer of Lankadeepa and Dawasa Newspapers. To those in the newspaper industry and journalism in particular, he is portrayed as one who expanded the perimeters and helped accommodate public opinion in his newspapers.
