The Dyeing Team emerge winners

Teejay Lanka PLC, the region’s largest multinational textile manufacturer recently conducted their annual Inter-Department Cricket encounter for the sixth consecutive year. The only day and night corporate tournament aptly titled the Teejay Premier League 2017 was a fun filled tournament with lots of colours and music; it got underway at the Teejay Grounds in Avissawella recently.

The tournament comprised of 10 teams from Teejay Lanka and Teejay Prints.

With a strong cricket culture throughout the organisation the champions of this year’s tournament were the Dyeing Team, with the Synthetic/HR team finishing as the runners-up. Kithsiri Perera was named best batsman and Ruwan Prassana was named best bowler of the tournament and Lakshitha Madhushan was named Man of the Series. Sportsmanship and team spirit are strong at Teejay, with the company’s softball team ranking as the fifth overall champions of Sri Lanka.

Commenting on the day’s events Rodney Arland, Chief Operating Officer, Marketing & Business Development said: “The Teejay Premier League is a much-anticipated event throughout the whole company, with teams gearing up months in advance to practice. The day and night match, aimed at fostering team spirit among Teejay’s employees through a friendly game of cricket and sportsmanship brings everyone closer together, with the whole company being involved in the day’s events from playing to electing the best cheering squad to best decorated house and tent, softball and hardball.”

This year once again the teams out did themselves with their cheering attire with vibrant costumes that lit up the whole ground. Team Teejay Prints was the winner of the best cheering squad with their fun and colourful costumes, while the Knitting team and Dyeing team took second and third places respectively. Special prizes for the most creative and best-decorated house and tent were awarded to the Knitting team with the Finishing team and Teejay Prints being placed second and third runners-up.

Another highlight of the tournament was the friendly match played between the Management Team and Joint Council Committee (JCC) at the end of the series. Present at the day’s events were members of the National Sri Lankan Cricket Team that also play for the Teejay team, players included Suranga Lakmal, Jeffery Vandasay and Charith Asalanka At the end of the action-packed day, it was not just cricket that won the day, but the team spirit of Teejay.

Teejay was named as one of the top 20 companies in Sri Lanka and is one of the Forbes “200 Best under a Billion in Asia.” The Teejay Group is backed through shareholding by two leading industrialists - Pacific Textiles, a Hong Kong based company with one of the largest manufacturing facilities in China, and Brandix Lanka, which is Sri Lanka’s largest apparel exporter and partners Teejay as a strategic link in the supply chain.
