A Cabinet turned Blue

22 October, 2017

If it were not for the Greens the Blues would have been out with a begging bowl protesting for everything and nothing, attempting to prolong the inevitable death with Mara and his cohorts. But then again, if it were not for the Blue man, the Greens had little or no chance of defeating Mara and the Cohorts in the first place isn’t it?. Simplistic I know, but Siripala is simplistic. You don’t need the theory of Di-anne to understand political realities do we?. A trishaw driver would give you in a nutshell what Di-anne and the other commentators would tell you with reams of nonsensical theory. The conclusions they’d draw might be different, but the realities are very well understood.

But clashes do happen, as they must. For this is the conjoining of twins.

They come from the same landowning mother and the corrupt capitalist father. But when conjoined, you have to fight for your share no?

So this time at the Cabinet it was the blues who raised their voices and said no can’t do with the cost of living. Haiyo, Cost of Living again?. It has been the one and only issue that never seems to go away for the Paradisians no.” My God, I went to the supermarket yesterday and got only this for 5,000 Rupees” seems the Colombo aunties’ cry. “ What to do men, these fellows are all the same no” is the reply. A wistful uncle might join in the conversation and say something smart though ah, like “ how to bloody put the cost of living down men, with this bond nonsense and all”.

But yes, so the ministerial ones also must be feeling the heat. They can’t go and meet their Siripalas and Kamalas, not that they care with everything paid for by the tax payers. But Siripala and Kamala don’t have that option no. And this is what triggered the weekly standoff at the Cabinet until sanity prevailed with the Green man stepping in. “shush” he said. It will all come under control. He must’ve been itching though to say, “ it was you - Blues’ price that we are paying”.

The Hamu out and servant in

As is always the case Paradisians have been fools. Now Siripala, thank goodness, was taught at a young age never to suffer fools. But these fools are of a different kind. Not the kind envisaged by the Sudda types when they coined the phrase don’t suffer fools.

These aren’t fools really. Instead, they are willing sufferers if there ever is such a term. These are the ones willing to put their necks forward for their masters. Just like the Chief of the Executive of everything that isn’t Perpetual, that Revenge- Sena boy. He lied so much to save his boss’ ass, that at one point the Commissioners couldn’t stop laughing. The other boy also did the same thing remember. “ Did you send these texts?” he was asked, “yes I did”, came the reply. “ Who did you mean when you said ...” he was asked, “ Aney, I don’t know who no. I just sent it “ he slapped back. The Justice who is “Amiable” couldn’t take it anymore. “No point asking him men, he’s been coached” he told Kulappuwa before Kulappuwa was to do his bull in the china shop run. They all tried to save their Master, not knowing that the Master will be saved either way. It is they who would be suffering.

So that is the high end no. What about the hoi polloi?.

Same thing no, son.

Namal arrested and released. The little boys who thumped their chests for him inside like little rats. Siripala sees no distinction with the high end and the hoi polloi. Same bloody thing men, all over again, every time. Hmmm

Kalu- Nika to shine... or?

So the lady cried, and fought and shouted and smiled. From the striking lass, she became a forceful voice and now she’s mellowed down. Motherhood does these to people doesn’t it? Paradisians see a mature, and smiling woman, assertive when need be, but silent when there is no need.

Finally patience may have paid off, albeit with a plum posting from a side that she would’ve never seen herself on. If the garbage crisis drove her out of one of the outskirts, another outskirt was still available. The liberal stone- had been the organizer for Ratmalana all these years doing nothing except create stir after stir. No one even remembered that this man was the organizer until the time had come to tell him “thank you, good bye”. So Kalu- Nika was to take the posting, whether she would make hay or muck out of the sunshine put on her, only time will tell. But Paradisians can’t be too concerned with the outcome could they, what with all that is happening in the country, this should be the least of their worries, Siripala thinks.

Vasus’ young blood in Russia

So one of Colombo’s well known thugs were in Russia- a man of around 60, Siripala thinks, posting pictures with Damsels and posing with shades and all, ah. Who would’ve thought that a Youth Conference would attract such viagra and vigour. Only Vasu would know Siripala is told. Kahandagamage is in Russia Siripala is told on the slot given to the Old Comrade’s party.

Can you believe it? Well yes, you can guess no, given the manner in which the Old Left is getting Older insulting the memory and ideals of everything that is left of the Left.

So a happy ride for our man though. Siripala is told that he picked up a fine for smoking in the airplane on the way to the place also. Don’t know who paid the damn thing, for his namesake ain’t in power anymore. But strange things can happen in Paradise land and only time will resolve that mystery.

Amare screams wolf wolf

Amare from Beliaththa has been given a hard time by Mara and his young boys. Sin men. He tried to be the go in between but as does always happen to these types he has been left in the lurch. What to do so. That’s how life works in Paradise’s politics no.

So now it was time for him to scream wolf, saying he was threatened with death by a younger one. It doesn’t take long for Siripala to figure out who this younger one might be, now does it? After years of brushing off everyone who screamed about the real wolf, now its Amare’s turn. Nature works in some mysterious ways doesn’t it? One day you are singing hosannas and calling the rest of the world liars and on the next you are screaming the same things the people accused of being liars were screaming of. Ane Manda, Kata kiyannada mewa.
