International Literacy Day

International Literacy day is celebrated on the 8th of September. It was declared by UNESCO in November 1965. The aim of International Literacy Day is to highlight the importance of literacy in individual communities and societies. International Literacy Day celebrations take place in several countries and it is observed by all UN member countries. In Sri Lanka there is an annual book fair to mark International Literacy Day.
