German drowns in Tangalle

A 53-year old German national drowned in Tangalle while swimming in the sea off the coast in Madilla on Friday. According to the Police, the woman had got caught in a riptide causing the drowning and was declared dead on admission to the Tangalle Hospital. Tangalle Police are investigating.

Suspicious death in Sooriyawewa

The Sooriyawewa Police found an individual dead inside a house in Swodagama, Walsapugala on Friday. According to the Police, the man appears to have died several days ago. The deceased has been identified as a resident of the house, 56-year-old Lokuharuge Sirisena. Investigations have commenced to ascertain whether the death was caused by murdered, the Police said.

Indian drug smugglers arrested

Two Indians attempting to smuggle Methamphetamine also called ice, into the country were arrested by the Airport Police Narcotics Unit. Acting on a tip-off received the officers found 30 grams of Methamphetamine in the possession of one individual. Questioning him later led the officers to another Indian national arriving from Chennai who was also found with 10 grams of Methamphetamine in his possession. The Police Narcotics Bureau is investigating.
