Under 19 Asia Cup: Jayawickrema 5 for 17 bowls SL to victory

Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama captured five wickets 17 runs as Sri Lanka U19s recorded their second win in the Youth Asia Cup 2017 when they beat ‘giant-killers’ Afghanistan U19s by 61 runs in their tournament match played at Bayuemas Oval in Malaysia yesterday.

Openers Dananjaya Lakshan and Hasitha Boyagoda gave a sound start adding 59 runs before Richmondite Lakshan was run out after scoring a six and a four during his 35-ball 24.

Trinitian Boyagoda top-scored with a fine 84-ball 53 with three fours and a six.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl first as the match was reduced to 42 overs per side after a delayed start due to rain. Sri Lanka under 196 for 8.

But Afghanistan were bowled out for 135 in 33.5 overs with Jayawickrama producing a deadly spell. D. Rasool had a fighting knock of 50 off 44 balls..
