Navy dented the short unbeaten run of Havelock SC defeating them by 25 points ( Two goals , one try, a penalty and a drop goal) to 14 ( Two goals) in their Dialog ‘A’ division League rugby match played at Welisara yesterday.

The winners led 22-7 at the breather.

Havelocks started promisingly by drawing first blood in the fourth minute after a brief invasion in the Naval territory. They forced a couple of scrums and mauls and finally Shenal Deelaka broke through to touch down for Reza Mubarak to add the extra points. However, the sailors hit back in quick succession when M. Faleel pierced the Havies defence and crashed through to score. Thlina Weerasinghe put over the conversion to equal the score. 7-7

With the sailors gradually assuming command the Havelocks lacked the fire power to curtail the Navy who scored twice through Lahiru Visvajith with Thilina Weerasinghe adding the extra points and Supun Peiris touched down off a five yard scrum which went unconverted.

There was no scoring for a good part in the second half with both sides indulging themselves in number mistakes. Somewhere in the mid second half Navy’s Thilina Weerasinghe dropped a goal from fifty yards out to make the score 25-7 for the sailors. During the dying stages of the game Kevin Dickson evaded several opponents to touch down and Reza Mubarak made no mistake with the conversion.
