Battle between two camps, says Rajitha

11 February, 2018

The voters at the local government election will certainly give a clear verdict to help take forward the Government and its development priorities, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday.

Speaking to the media after casting his vote at the Hettimulla Vihara polling station, Beruwala yesterday, Dr Senaratne said this time, the local government elections is a battle between two camps, whether good governance should be taken forward or to resurrect communalism, religious intolerance, disunity and corrupt governance practised under the previous Government.

The Minister said that he hoped the people would cast their vote to help continue good governance.

He also said it is important to note that the UNPers were in the forefront in conducting the election campaign. They were actively involved in the election which will certainly guarantee a landslide victory for their party.

It is important that the UNPers took the stage at the last phase to turn back the onslaught by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), he said.

Minister Senaratne said the people will give their verdict to ensure the Government’s forward march and its future work program.

“Our aim is to develop the village by streamlining the Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Councils and Municipal Councils. It is a salient feature that the educated youth and the professionals entered the election fray this time so that the new electoral system could be strengthened,” the Minister said.
