Psycho - drama “Lord of the Flies” Bringing out the ‘brute’ in kids

18 February, 2018

A team of devoted High School student players will test their skills in portraying small children struggling for survival on a desert island when the English Drama Society of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, stages William Golding’s psycho-thriller novel this weekend.

Nobel Literature laureate William Golding’s famous novel is about small children stranded on a remote, uninhabited island on which their plane crashed in the midst of a war. The novel is hailed as a powerful, if bloody, psychological drama of modern European children deteriorating into brutish, tribal violence and occult as they struggled to survive in a lush tropical habitat.

The Thomian student-players have taken on the challenge of portraying small children striving to look after themselves, alone, in a wilderness and, failing violently. The production, celebrating a hundred years of STC in Mount Lavinia, will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo, on February 23, 24 and 25, at 7.30 p.m.
