APIIT to offer Deakin University IT degree

The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) and the Deakin University Australia entered into strategic partnership to offer Deakin Degree in IT (Bachelor of IT) to local students where a high demand for IT related education prevails in the country.

“This is a unique pathway to a Deakin Degree and the students enroll at APIIT have the option of transferring to Deakin University in Australia after the first or second year of study at APIIT or studying throughout in Sri Lanka to complete the Dealin University Bachelor of IT Degree,” APIIT CEO Athula Pitigalaarachchi said.

“We have enhanced the student opportunities for higher education in Australia. We expect to widen the spectrum of study programs in future,” he said.

The Australian section of higher education has opens its doors to the Sri Lankan students and we hope that they will make use of this opportunity to further their studies. There are four faculties at the Deakin University and it falls within the top two percent of the universities of the world, Deakin University Associate Dean of Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment Prof. K. Baskaran said.

“We consider APIIT to be one of the well established universities in Sri Lanka. We have made arrangements for credit transfers. This is the beginning of our partnership and there will me much more collaborations in the future,” he said.

“We could ensure that the Sri Lankan students to have rich learning opportunities. There will be choices of specialization including in application development, cyber security and creative technologies. The students will also benefit from the industry orientation, teaching excellence and the top of the line teaching experience offered by the Deakin University,” he said.

“We do not intend to enter in to competition with other education providers, but will strive to maintain quality. Today, student transfer aspect is a common phenomenal and it is an advantage to the students,” the Professor said.
