Jazz: Wycliffe Gordon in Colombo to jazz up #USASL70

The American jazz sensation Wycliffe Gordon and the U.S. Embassy Colombo will celebrate 70 years of partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka (#USASL70) through a series of jazz shows in Sri Lanka. The legendary Wycliffe Gordon and His International All Stars will visit from February 24 to 28 to stage performances, free of charge, in Colombo and Galle, and bring this truly American music genre to Sri Lanka.

The shows will be held as follows:

February 24: At the Fort Railway Station, Colombo (25 minutes) at 12:30 p.m., Galle Face Green, Colombo (25 minutes) at 5pm and, Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo (25 minutes) at 6.30 pm.

February 26: At the Dutch Hospital, opposite World Trade Center, Colombo (25 minutes) at 12.30 p.m., Wekanda Road, Colombo 2 (25 minutes) at 4 pm.

February 27: At the Sudarmalaya Grounds, Galle (60 minutes) at 5 pm.

Wycliffe is a renowned musician, composer, conductor, and arranger. He is a veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and an original member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. The Wall Street Journal named his show “Jazz a la Carte” one of the five best moments in jazz history. He is currently an Artist in Residence at Georgia Regents University, in Augusta, Georgia.
