The inaugural meeting of the Lajnathush Shazuli, Kattankudy was held recently at the Meeran Mosque, Kattankudy with Dr. M.S.M. Jabir presiding.
The convenor Dr. Fahmy Ismail, stated that the objectives of the meeting was to convene leading members of the Shazuliya Thareeqa (order) in Kattankudy and to form the Association to propagate and strengthen the activities of the ‘thareeqa’. He said that a large number of citizens of Kattankudy were followers of the Shazuliya thareeqa and the prayers, practices, and traditions associated with the order was intensively practised and followed for many decades. With the onset of the LTTE activities, none of these practices were permitted for nearly three decades.
Dr. Jabir stressed the importance of working together and invited senior ‘ulemas’ to lead by example. Kattankudy had a rich tradition of religious practices which should be reactivated in the city, he said.
Thalaath Ismail, President of Ithihaad Ahlis Sunnathi Wal Jamaathi, Khaleefa Moulavi Isthikhar Baari, Moulavi Azmy Khan, H.M.M. Musthafa, ulemas, members of the community and a large delegation from Colombo, Beruwala, Galle, Matara and Akurana participated.
The office-bearers of the Association were also elected at this meeting.
