Negombo’s football lovers are happy, to see their favorite club Jupiter’s Sports Club back in the limelight after nearly a decade. This club at one time was Negombo’s most loved club and made Negombo proud in the field of football winning tournaments and producing top players.
This season Jupiters SC led by A.F. Mohamed Insaf, and coached by John Fernando a former national footballer gave a good display of football during the Tournament. This fine performance was dished out a after a long spell and were able to win the Negombo Football League inter clubKnock out Championship for the year 2018. This victory also showed the fans that they are making their way to bring back Jupiters SC to where it was in the good old days.
This was achieved mainly due to the committee headed by former national goal keeper Bernard de Silva who gave his best together with Joint Secretaries John Fernando and Dr. Henry Fernando and the Executive Committee.
To clinch the NFL Knockout Tournament Jupiters SC beat Western SC in the quarter final, Negombo Youth SC in the semi-final and Red Rose SC in the final. The final ended in a one all draw, and the tie breaker saw Jupiter’s SC net in 4 goals to rival’s 2 goals. The final was played at St. Mary’s College grounds Negombo.
