Cricket election set for May 31

13 May, 2018

Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to conduct its election of office bearers on May 31 saying it received the nod from the sports minister.

The election was to be held on May 19 but postponed over procedural drawbacks while some voting members claimed they were not notified in keeping with Constitutional requirements.

“The Annual General Meeting and election of office bearers shall now be conducted on May 31, 2018 in compliance with the directive issued by the Minister on the advice of the Honourable Attorney General subsequent to regularization of the appointment of the SLC Elections Committee”, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

Incumbent SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala is seeking a second two-year term and it is still not known if he would be contested or have a clear passage.

Speculation is rife that former SLC head Nishantha Ranatunga might throw in the dice.
