Unbeaten St.Peter’s College destroyed any hopes Trinity may have had of making a comeback in the second round of the schools rugby League as they pulled off a pulsating28-21 win at Pallekele in Kandy yesterday.

The Peterites forwards were too strong for the Trinitians as they took a 14-0 lead at halftime. It marked their sixth win in a row and is now the only team in the fray that can threaten the record of the defending champions Royal College whom they will meet on June 2.

St. Peter’s College play-maker and scrum half Jason Karunaratne was as usual in the thick of things as he rattled the Trinity defence with some sizzling runs.

The Peterites crossed Trinity’s line for four tries all of which were converted by fly-half Thiwanka Liyanapathirana after centre Rukshan Madushanka scored the first try.

Javindu Fernando scored the second try for the Peterites for Liyanapathirana to convert as they went in for the break at 14-0.

The Peterite forwards got into business in the second half and scored their third try through a rolling maul for Liyanapathirana to add the extra points..

They sealed the game with their fourth try through Nizran Nilar which was converted by Liyanapathirana. Trinity’s three tries came through Vishwa Ranaraja and Sakalasuriya who scored twice and converted all three tries.
