The little star in Matara

27 May, 2018

The little star in Matara is the Star Fort located in the heart of Matara town. The Star Fort which was constructed under the patronage of the Dutch was originally called Redoute Van Eck, commemorating the Dutch Governor of Ceylon. In 1964 the Dutch completed the main fort in Matara. In 1761 the Sinhalese took control of this main fort backed by the Kandyan Kingdom. In 1762, the Dutch regained control of this fort. When you go down south visit this majestic little star and leave only footprints in order to protect it for the future.
