Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Fraccid Anthony Fernando OMI passed away at the ‘Sahana Madura’, Ja-ela on May 21. Fr. Fraccid played a pivotal role both as a good shepherd and counsellor for the mentally traumatized and victims of drugs for over four decades bringing healing through love and compassion to those who sought consolation from him at the ‘Sahana Medura’, the ‘Home of Comfort’ which he founded 25 years ago.
The institution has been providing counselling, psychotherapy and meditation to thousands of mentally ill patients for over two decades.
Fr. Anthony was a senior lecturer at the Peradeniya University prior to devoting himself as a counsellor at ‘Sahana Madura’.
The final rites of Fr. Fraccid took place on May 23 at the ‘Sahana Madura’ at 3.00 p.m., following a Holy Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Kanuwana.
