World Game at Ape’Gama

I happened to be at Ape’Gama, Battaramulla for a different reason on a Saturday morning and came across a game called Bocce Ball (bochee ball) being played by a few gentlemen. I was lucky enough to take part. It was a kind of bowling game which I have never seen before, in Sri Lanka. This unique bowling game is an excellent sport for senior citizens. It is a physical exercise, while testing your throwing skills.

Thanks to the gentleman who has initiated in introducing this sport mainly for elders like us, though of course even the youth may find this an interesting leisure game.

I was told Bocce Ball is a tournament sport in Italy, France, the US, Australia and scores of other European countries, which is extremely popular among seniors. Nowadays, as adults find less outdoor sport activities available, Bocce Ball is definitely worth trying out in the tranquil environment of Ape’Gama.
