China fully committed to peace and prosperity in S. Asia, says Chinese official

China is fully committed towards peace and prosperity in South Asia and in no way will want to dominate nor interfere in the affairs of the region which along with China will change the global economic landscape soon, Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Yunnan Province Li Jiming told journalists speaking on the role of China in South Asia at the post launch media briefing on the ‘China-South Asia Cooperation Forum’ (CSACF) held in the Kunming City, Yunnan, China.

There is a misconception that countries in the region will fall into a debt trap due to the vast amount of loans provided by China to the region. The loans provided vy China are from government to government and business to business focusing on strategic ventures which are profitable for the country that borrows from China.

“South Asia has been China’s traditional friendly neighbours sharing geographical vicinity and cultural affinity. China will support all efforts of its neighbours to achieve accelerated growth, peace and prosperity.” Jiming said.

This year marks the 40’th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. China will stick to its unwavering commitment to reform and opening up, working together with other Asian countires and the rest of the world to create a bright future for Asia and the world. It is in this context that it is highly relevant to hold the CSACF.

The cooperation between China and South Asia is in accord with the development needs of the two sides and will greatly promote regional cooperation in Asia.

Delegates from many South Asian countries were present at the forum where in which a regular mechanism was established. Parties attending the forum agreed to buold a CSACF into a new platform for policy dialogue, economic cooperation, people to people exchanges and knowledge sharing for China and South Asian countries based on wide consultation, joint contribution and mutual benefits.

The forum is scheduled to be held annually at the lakeside of Fuxian Lake in the Yunnan province.

Key areas for future cooperation have been identified at the forum including interconnectivity, business, local government, poverty reduction and alleviation, finance and people to people exchanges.

“The the cooperation atmosphere of candid exchanges, mutual assistance and shared development as with other and countries will integrate with regional cooperation to build has been created. Participants expressed their wish to strengthen regional cooperation for inclusive development in the region so as to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity,” Jiming said.

He said the South Asian subcontinent is full of hope and potential. China will work together with South Asia to make the cake of common interest bigger and strengthen the ties of result oriented and win win cooperation for common development.”

Officials of the Foreign Ministry of the Yunnan province said that Yunnan looks forward to sharing its best with South Asia and the rest of the world.
