Specially for vintage song lovers

5 August, 2018

What’s your favourite from the vintage world of song? Is it the much sung Old Folks At Home or Home On The Range? And if you missed the Moratuwa Arts Forum’s presentation of Down Memory Lane on July 8 - then you have only yourself to blame.

Down Memory Lane turned out to be a roaring success that day. The hall at Hotel Randiya was packed to capacity with enthusiastic lovers of vintage songs eagerly participating in the singing which was led by a complement of singers from the Moratuwa Arts Forum. The music backing was provided by none other than the popular Nalin & the Star Combination. There were many songs that were sung that evening and the whole programme after nearly three hours, reluctantly came to an end. Apart from Old Folks At Home, ‘Have I Told You Lately That I Love You’, ‘Whispering Hope’ and more, there were hit songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s more plantations songs, cowboy favourites, calypsos and also a scintillating assortment of Sinhala vintage favourites.

Down Memory Lane, an yearly ‘looked-forward-to-event’ is now in its 18th year and the Moratuwa Arts Forum must be congratulated for their dedication in keeping the programme alive year in and year out.

The project is jointly chaired by Laksiri Fernando and Priya Peiris and the organising committee comprises Brian Cooray, Hiran Fernando, Sarath Goonewardena, Suranga Fernando, Lalianthi Jayaratne, Hemaka Fernando and Delvin Perera.
