Don’t put off the idea – get your cowboy or cowgirl suit or hats from the bottom shelf of your wardrobe and be ready for the Country Roads concert on Saturday October 20 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from 6.30 p.m. You can bet your last rupee that your favourite song will be sung – the song you never failed to stop singing in your shower!

Country Roads 2018 moves into its 30th anniversary show and the Foundation is pulling out all stops to make this concert - in aid of children - one that will be remembered with nostalgia. The familiar Mavericks from Germany will be back on stage – this time with a five piece band which will include a fiddler to give more country depth and attraction to their sound. The spotlight will also fall on Astrid Brook from the UK – whose repertoire has never failed to excite the country music fans in Sri Lanka.

According to the Foundation the other performers will be our own Cosmic Rays, Anno Domini and the Country Revival Band with Feizal and Jury. What is significant in this year’s show will be the release of a special edition 30th anniversary Country Roads Music CD which will comprise 20 songs by musicians from Germany, China, UK and USA. Since only a limited 300 copies will be available, the CD will not be sold but will be gifted to anyone who donates Rs. 1,000 or above to Country Roads towards this year’s charities for children. Tickets are priced at Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000.

The President of the Country Music Foundation Feizal Samath briefing the media emphasised that “the 30th anniversary concert is very special to us and is reflective of the many years gone. We are thankful to note that we have reached a countless number of needy children and helped them on this journey of ours. Thanks also to the large number of very talented musicians who have contributed to this gigantic 30- year effort”. Now it is left to you to don those western outfits and come in your numbers to the Mount Lavinia Hotel or October 20 to sing you cares away.
