Paarami Fernando, Sri Lanka’s bronze medal winner in the 2000 metres steeple chase at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires said yesterday that all she needs at this moment is for someone to help her family construct a house.

She made the revelation after returning to the country yesterday.

“I did everything for my country and my parents and now someone should support our family to construct a home which will be most valuable for us at this point in time.

“I hope I will also be able to receive a monthly allowance to support my education and sports”, said the 17-year old Parami who hails from a village in Chilaw.

She needs Rs.7000 to travel to Colombo for training on each occasion and has already received a donation of Rs.100,000 from a well wisher Dharshana Liyanarachchi.

President Maithripala Sirisena has also made a deposit of Rs. 1.5 million while her coach Janith has continued to chip in to help her financially.

Paarami claimed that she did not know her parents mortgaged their land on which they planned to build a house.
