D.J. Wimalasurendra was the first to realise that it was possible to generate hydropower in Sri Lanka. The locations of hydropower stations are Kothmale, Laxapana, Victoria, Rantembe and Randenigala. The method of producing hydropower is by fixing a dynamo to a large turbine that rotates with the help of a stream of water.
