The United National Party (UNP) should learn from its mistakes and follow a more people-friendly path, Malcom Cardinal Ranjith had reportedly told a few MPs when he met them yesterday, November 3.

Representing the UNP were MPs John Amaratunga, Ravi Karunanayake, Hector Appuhamy, Niroshan Perera and TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran.

“There was a strict tax policy, and a fuel price formula which lead to a higher cost of living. Those were critical factors. Even though they could be minor things, it brought a negative image to your government. Your Finance Minister could have been more sensitive about the public. This should be considered by you all as a way to learn,” he reportedly said.

MPs’ discussed the current political situation in the country with the Cardinal. “You all should solve problems so as to retain peace in the country,” he advised the MPs.
