More showers expected

A low-pressure area is said to be developing over the South East Bay of Bengal according to a spokesman for the Department of Meteorology. The spokesman said it has a possibility of moving towards Sri Lanka and deepening further later.

The Department has forecast that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central and the Uva provinces while showers or thundershowers are expected to occur elsewhere after 2.00 pm.

According to the weather advisory issued by the Department of Meteorology fairly heavy showers above 75 mm may occur at some places in and Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva province and in the Ampara and Hambantota districts. Mist may also occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces in the morning. The advisory has also forecast there may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers.

“Public, naval and fishing communities have been called upon to heed the advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology,” the release stated
