4 November, 2018

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) said the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) student who won the case against the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has not provided information regarding her educational qualifications. According to the Secretary of the GMOA, Dr Haritha Aluthge, the student had not filled the allocate space which required information regarding the Advanced level results of the student. Addressing a press conference at the GMOA Headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said the student had sought to register with the SLMC following the Supreme Court judgment and, therefore, the SLMC had informed her to forward an accurately filled application.

However, according to Dr Aluthge, the student has since failed to submit the accurately filled complete application to obtain SLMC registration.

“She had refrained from furnishing her Advanced Level results and we believe that she was attempting to conceal information,” Aluthge said, adding that all applicants must fill the applications accurately to obtain SLMC registration and have passed the Advanced Level examinations in the science stream which is also a must.
